Mallikarjun Kharge's one year journey as Congress President will be described as wonderful. On one hand, the Gandhi family is feeling great relief since the day he took charge, while on the other hand, Congress got the news of victory from Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka during his tenure.
First Sonia Gandhi had to run the government at the Centre, and later Rahul Gandhi had to run the Congress party in the country. Just as Sonia Gandhi got Manmohan Singh to take over as the Prime Minister, a year ago, similarly, Rahul Gandhi got Mallikarjun Kharge to take over as the Congress President - and both these experiments of the Gandhi family can be considered successful. At least this can be said according to their needs.
Now Mallikarjun Kharge's name has also been floated for the post of Prime Minister, provided the INDIA alliance is able to defeat BJP in the 2024 general elections. And this should also be acceptable to the opposition political parties.
Manmohan Singh got the title of 'Accidental Prime Minister' for running the UPA government, but Mallikarjun Kharge has still been spared from any such public criticism. Perhaps also because he had already said that he would like to do any work only through consensus. And consensus in Congress means the opinion of the Gandhi family only.
